Wooden Floors in Bathroom

Hi

We are interested in putting down wooden flooring in our main bathroom with wooden panelling halfway up the wall.

Has anyone had any horror stories of using wood in their bathroom?

Bathroom won't be used that much as 2 other ensuites in house (or at least until kids arrive on the scene???)

Obviously you have to be very careful with spillages etc
 

Personally, I definitely would not put a wooden floor in a bathroom. I'm sure you will be very careful with spillages etc., but it's the unexpected leaks, etc. that'll cause the problems. A friend of mine has a good laminate floor in his bathroom but it doesn't seem to have stood the test of time. I think tiles, while a bit colder, are a better option.

We have red deal panelling half way up our bathroom walls. It still looks nice, years later, but, being thin, the individual panels have all "bent" inwards in the centre. Not sure if that's from dampness from having showers there or from the heat in the bathroom.
 

+1. Even if it never happens, you'll be worrying that it might. I recently put in natural slate tiles in the bathroom, lovely, easy to clean, and no worries about water. Save yourself the heartache & worry!
 
If you wanted the wood look you can get a special bathroom laminate. Obviously doesn't look as good as solid wood but it might be an alternative?
 
I too love the look of a wooden floor in a bathroom but I also knew it was impractical. What I did was put in (excellent quality) herringbone parquet effect lino. It's warm underfoot and looks great and everybody admires it. (The quality is so important though, there are a lot of awful ones out there - sorry, I can't remember the brand name but I got it in Navan)
 
We have solid oak (1 inch thick)floors in our bathroom for the last 3 years; they have been sealed with, I think, Ronseal. We have had no problems at all with the floor.
