Hi guys I'm getting my shed wired and just want to know is it common to take the mains for the shed of the socket in my kitchen or is this the cowboy way of doing it.

That you ask the question shows bells are ringing. The only way to do this is a direct new feed with fuse in your fuseboard and armoured SWA cable of sufficient size to carry the expected load.

You can also put a mini board in the shed to separate lights & sockets. Remember regulations also apply to the siting of wash / dryer machines and their use of spurs etc. (I dont mean your electrician).

Hi
I had my shed wired earlier this year and the sparkie took 6 square armour cable from the main fuseboard in the house to a small fuseboard/consumer unit in the garage and then put the lights and sockets on different circuits. I can run a small compressor and arc welder no problem with 6 square cable.
Off a kitchen socket....well you might as well burn your money as you will have to get the job done again when you go to use something in the shed and the trip switches start tripping!!
