Wireless broadband and telephone

hi all,
We live in a rural area where we cannot have broadband via telephone cable. For the past two years we have been using a wireless broadband provider who have now started to provide a telephone service via broadband, thus doing away with the need for line rental with eircom. This would be a saving of 13 euro per month.

Is there anybody who uses wireless broadband for their telephone service and not have line rental? Is it a good reliable service and are there many problems with it for communication? We do have a good service with the broadband?

Any thoughts advice much appreciated. Optimistic

I use blueface for telephone service over the internet and I find it excellent. I use a wired connection to the blueface router. I have tried the telephone over a wireless broadband (wimax irish broadband) provider and it worked without any issue for the day or so i was using it. You might find more tested opinions on the blueface website forums blueface.ie

I am not affiliated with blueface just a happy customer.

Hi,

I am in a rural area, and using fixed wireless broadband provider. I have had blueface now as my sole "landline" type service for over 2 years and find it excellent. It is highly dependent on the qualitry of your ISP provider, so will vary across different providers. I know a guy on a different wireless provider who has awful problems.

The fact that your provider is also offering voice services should however give you some confidence, as ultimetly he will be responsible for ensuring the network is good enough to carry voice, and he should be able to manage the Quality on the network to ensure it.

You could always download a trial from blueface and test it out, its free, and you wont need hardware for the trial.

hi sanne and wexfordman, thanks for your replies. Our server Rapid Broadband have given a good service so far and we were thinking of adding the telephone service that they also offer in addition to the broadband package.
I will check the blueface website and see if I understand it. If not, I will post again
We are trying to reduce our communications bill per month and have to have broadband for my wife's work and thought that the option of having it in an all in one package might be worth checking out. Thanks again. optimistic

Can you recommend a good wireless broadband provider for Kildare area ? Eircom tell me my line is unsuitable even though the chap next door has broadband and is connected to the same pole as me. Is wireless a good alternative ?

Many thanks
