Hi,I have a shed (approx 4m x 3.5m) that is quite a bit from my house,so there is no electricity.I would like to have a light in there, which would normally only be needed for a few minutes at a time. But it would also be nice to be able to do some bits n pieces in there,so an hours use would also be nice.Anyway has anyone used any battery or solar solutions that actually give good workable light and the pros and cons with them.

If battery I'm looking for something thats not too sore on batteries and gives good light.

If solar I'm looking for something that gives good light in winter, when the light is most needed and is not too expensive.

12Volt car battery, wire a 12V lamp to it and have solar trickle charger attached.

There are some good Led 12v car lead lamps availabe. However a 12v lamp, while effective for close-up work on a bench or under a bonnet, is not much good at lighting up an entire room.
I have no experience with solar trickle chargers.

I have an old van I'm converting to a camper. I have no 12V power wired for lighting yet, so I'm using 4 of those little LED push lights, ya know the ones? I use rechargeable batteries, which I charge in a solar charger. The blue-ish light is quiet stark, but as Jetblue mentioned, probably not much good at lighting a whole room. You could always use an oil lamp with them.

Car lamps are always focused beams, you need a wider dispersion of light.

Check out domestic low-voltage lighting or look at getting an [broken link removed] and mains low-energy area lighting.
