Hi,
We moved into our house 8 years ago, with an architect designed extension...To cut a long story short - the window wall at the back of house are drafty and so we are looking to replace them...All our windows are wooden...had marvin out to quote - 27K...seems alot but I know they are top of the range...

Can anyone recommend any companies who have done something similar? The 'glass wall' will have either 2 doors that open up or slide.
Many thanks in advance
Emma

Re: Glass wall at back of house

A couple words of warning. Marvin sell themselves as top of the range. In reality I think that many of the other window companies are as good....and better. If you are serious about using them do not accept their ridiculous prices. We were quoted €65k for our house. When we told them that we thought they were mad they said that they expected to be well above any other quote we recieved and did not seem to care. However, when we informed them last week that we were about to order from a competitor they dropped their price by €20k!!!! Even so we didn't go with them

Hi Rmdt,
Thats very interesting! Our budget is 20K max for it so maybe I'll go back and tell them that! Would you mind telling me who you ordered your windows from and if you would recommend them? I just don't know who to contact. Many thanks

I can recommend Andreas from Sorpetaler Windows.
abberlin@eircom.net
He is the Irish rep/installer and the windows are made in Germany. We have two glass walls. The U value qouted is 1.1, and I recently noticed condensation on the outside of the window, which shows that they are working well.

Do a search of previous posts as I have recommended him before.

The windows are wooden, and look very well. We have one 8' glass door which slides across.

We have just ordered from Rationel. Their service has been very good, but we won't be getting our windows fitted until Christmas so then we'll really know what they are like! On an aside, when we first started looking at windows, Rationel had a 12 week wait between order and fitting. It is now down to 6 weeks. Hence, window companies are mad for business and can definitely be negotiated with!

Sorpetaler windows looked very good as well (if you like tilt and turn units) and Andreas seemed very good to deal with. We saw his windows in a friends house and they spoke very highly of him.

Harmon Vindeur in Dublin were also very nice to deal with. Have heard good reports about them, but never actually saw their windows, as we decided not to deal with them as they are based in Dublin and we are from the south of the country.

Re: Glass wall at back of house

I know a few people who used Bowman windows in Banbridge Co. Down.

They were all very happy with the work (which was carried out quickly, professionally and tidily by all accounts) and found them to be much cheaper than suppliers of similar (or maybe even identical) quality products.

AFAIK they go all over the republic too.

Ok thank you all so much for your recommendations - I will phone them all tomorrow and start getting quotes!
Thanks
