Window Cost

I am looking to replace a bathroom window - pvc, double glazed - measuring 52 x 34 inches with a similar type. Can anybody tell me what the approximate total cost - supply and fitting - might be? Thank you.

I had a window roughly that size supplied and fitted 2 years ago in my kitchen for about €300. This was white PCV, double glazed clear glass.

Thanks. Was the supplier one of the major national firms or somebody local to you?

Yes, much closer to this from what I'm seeing recently trying to get quotes on a small job.

Supply & fit - even if it's only 1 window, there's 2 guys and a van tied up for a few hours.

One window on its own is very expensive to have fitted

Not a big job but one of those awkward ones. You could go around to PVC places that make the windows and maybe pick the size and design fairly cheaply if they've one left around. The thing is you won't be able to fit it yourself (guessing) A tradesman has to take out the old one, hammer and chisel it out, fit the new one, bed it in, plaster all round it inside and outside, maybe fit a window board and have you give the "expert" verdict on it. It may not take him long to do it but you'll pay for that expertise, his time, his tools and him getting there plus everything else. You'll pay €3,500.00 to have your appendix removed, takes about 20 mins, there's a few others to get paid out of that figure as well but see where i'm coming from?

It was a midlands company that do a lot of work in Dublin. They have done other work for me previously. In my case though, they had no plastering to do. I was getting my kitchen plastered anyway, so the window fitters had no finishing to do other than fit the window and seal around it with foam.

Yes, I could easily buy a good quality replacement. There are a number of outlets that sell them. Fitting is the issue. You would really need a specialist window guy as distinct from a general handyman. I doubt if many of the established window companies would be willing to install something that they are not supplying themselves.

You will probably be looking at this window for the next 20 years. Focus on getting it done right, it won't matter in 5 years time wether you paid €300, €600 or €900, it will matter if it leaks or is unsightly.
