Hi,
I am putting up insulation (50mm) on the internal of the external walls of the house i am building....therefore require wider window boards (10") as opposed to the normal 8" that suppliers only seem to be providing. I also require have 2 x 15"wide window boards. Could anybody please tell me where i could source these boards as i need to get them in before my plasterer comes next week. I am based in the Athlone region.

If your window boards are required to have a paint grade finish then you can easily do this with 25mm moisture resisitant grade mdf, cut to the appropriate widths and moulded as appropriate.

Hi,

I got the wider window boards in Brooks Athlone. Can't remember if they were 9 or 10 inch though. Worth giving them a call.

By the way do you need 50mm insulation on inner wall ? I am planning to use insulated plasterboard on inner walls also and I think the overall thickness is 38mm. Perhaps if you also have some insulation in cavity (assuming block) already 50mm may not be necessary. I'm no expert though.

Had a similar problem and to get the depth of 10" plus , we had to use stair stringer for window boards , slightly more expensive than window board but did the trick.

Thanks for the help on that. I actually since managed to source the window boards in Premierwindow boards in Dublin. The 50mm insulated board (comprising 38mm insulation and 12mm plasternboard) is not a necessity. I have already met the regs with 60mm Kingspan between the cavity (u value=0.27).

It is a major priority of mine to insulate the house as best as i can. I contacted Kingspan and the extra 50mm on the internal of the external wall will bring the u-value down to 0.19. I think that the 38mm that you are putting in will give a u-value of 0.21 (assuming that you already have the 60mm in the cavity).

A friend of mine had that job done on his house a few years back and it is a brilliant job-room heats up much quicker, higher comfort levels, savings on fuel, etc, etc

i rang premier window boards and the dont have 10" oak!! im based in clare, has anyone else sourced them in the galway, clare, limerick area?
thanks

we got ours in the window and door store in Little Island in Cork.

Rory Lynch transport in shannon or any courier will collect them and bring them up for you. Very reasonable.

They are pricey though. They joined ours but you can't see the join unless you knew it was there. Very pleased with it. About a week lead time though so you'd want to be getting it sorted soon.

Ask for Chris O'Mahony there.

Hi,
I have black windows insitu so we went with black grainate window boards. They look really good! We installed themselves. Got them in Ennis.

Go to a joinery shop , they can put them together for you especially for the 15ft windows
