Window boards to match what ??

I have golden oak pvc windows
I plan to use oak window boards

What should i do??
  1. Match the window boards with the golden oak windows using dye
  2. OR Leave it natural to match the internal oak doors and skirting
Calling on all interior decorators / anyone with a good sense of design

You should realise that "oak pvc" windows will probably not look the same as the oak window boards "matched" to them in a few years time.

But more than that, timber warps and moves and cracks - uPVC based materials seldom do this, although they can discolour.
There is also a depth to a natural grain, unless it is painted, which an imitation of wood simply cannot match.
Such differences will only become more marked over time.
So the uPVC /timber window may look its best against a white painted window board.

If its a veneer finish, then matters may be less clear - some veneers can look quite good, but the changes in surface plane [i.e. the exposed corners where the depth of the veneer can be seen] usually expose them as veneers.
This can be combated if the uPVC frames have a "flat" timber finish, running from the window reveal to the rubber seal, but this in and of itself defines them as not being timber, which often has rounded or bevelled edges and corners to avoid damage.

You'd really need to see examples of the windows up for five years alongside timber to see the difference.

Timber does expand and contract but so does everything else in the world.

Wood only warps and cracks if it has not been seasoned properly or if it has been badly installed.

Plain white gloss painted window boards won't complete with the wood grain in the PVC window.

Are your skirtings and internal doors solid wood or are they engineered items with a veneer finish?
 
try to match colours now with staining....

and if the window boards colour becomes diffused over the years... then paint the board white... best of both worlds....

in my opinion, exposed timber architraves. skirts and doors will quickly become dated.....
 
I have decided to put in the window board stained to match the golden oak pvc as close as possible
If through time it changes in shade then I will paint them and the skirting.

I will leave the doors unpainted.


How about that for decision making!!!!!

What about painting the sills the same
colour as your walls; if you decided to do this you could use a cheaper wood than oak and save a few bob.

This is an amazing idea,
When people suggested painting them, I assumed painting them to match the skirting or even doors

your window supplier should be able to supply you with a Upvc window board which should match to your window
