My girlfirend completed a marketing degree, worked in sales for a year and now wants to get more marketing based experience. She got a temporary administration position in a company. Now they want her to become permanent but they have said they will let her handle marketing for that department i.e. updating website and other marketing duties. The manager has also told her that she may be able to spend a few hours a week in the main marketing dept of the company.

Is this permanent position worth taking? Will this enable her to get an even more marketing focussed role in 6 months to a year. I think she should take position as getting into marketing is really not easy.

It would certainly count...in my experience the responsibilities you have are more important than the title of your job.

So what does the main marketing department do?

One caveat I would have is that whether they will fulfil their promises to give her marketing exposure ? I have experience of being promised the sun , moon & stars at interviews in terms of exposure/experience and it does not always materialise. I think in todays job market alot if companies try to 'woo' employees with what they think they want to hear .

This could not be the case here at all and only your girlfriend could be the judge of that........
