Why such a big deal made of purchasing a bank draft?

I went in to my local branch on Friday and asked could I purchase a bank draft. I was not looking to withdraw but merely use the cash I had with me. I was told it was against bank procedure and I needed to use the money that was in my account and not the cash I had in my hand.

After a long running debate with the manager I came out none the wiser

Money laundering issues is the usual reason if it was a large amount

Could you just have lodged the cash and then bought a draft?

Usually you can purchase a draft with cash up to a limit of €500...may not be all banks but with BOI it is.

As already said...reason is money laundering.
