I will soon be taking early retirement from my present workplace after 30 years.
My question is, if I go to a recruitment agency looking for a new job, who pays the recruitment agency, me or the future employer or both?

Thanks
Fred

Re: looking for work

Future employer as a percentage of the salary offered to you:)

Can anyone know what these percntages are?

I've heard the figure of 20% mentioned before but that seems high for what is essentially just putting a compnay in touch with someone who's on your agency's register.

Or is there some more complicated service they provide?

The percentages vary depending how anxious the agancy is to establish itself with your company. I've seen between 12.5 and 20% recently. There's a lot of agencies and the competition is fierce.

A good agency will thoroughly screen candidates, ability test, check references, etc before recommending them.

There is usually a clause that allows for a refund of some or all of the fee should the employee leave or not suit within an agreed period of time.

The above applies to permanent staff - agencies usually provide temps at an agreed hourly rate and pay the employee directly.
