..and how far should I consider their financial recommendations trustworthy? Their "About" page doesn't say who they are. It does say they "sometimes get paid commission" but they don't say by whom or for which products. I've Googled this but drawn a blank.

I've seen it referred to a few times on AAM as a source of information but I'm wary of following suggestions from them without knowing who is behind the site.

Can anyone shed some light, please, on ownership?

About Us

Money Guide Ireland is an independent site set up to provide financial tips for Irish consumers . We aim to provide up to date and accurate figures on the best rates for savings accounts, mortgages, loans, credit cards .
As featured on the RTE1 [broken link removed]
As recommended in the [broken link removed]
Whilst we strive to maintain the rates and update them when changes occur – customers should double check with the financial institutions for current rates.
This site also trys to provide accurate comparisons of utility prices – such as Electricity , Gas , Broadband etc.
From time to time we will also highlight other bargains , discounts or special offers that we think are good deals for Irish consumers.
Sometimes we get commission from websites we mention – but in all cases we will always give accurate and truthful information. If there are better deals – we will mention them. We are not regulated by the financial regulator and all interest rates given on this site are taken from the information given on the websites of the various financial institutions.

You can also comment on individual articles or posts.
Their about page is poorly drafted, badly punctuated and has some examples of poor spelling (site also trys..) and a strange conversational style.

At the bottom of the extract quoted from their website it says "comments are closed".

It's a wordpress based based site and comments being allowed are standard unless 'comments are closed' on a particular page or post.

The about page has comments closed but the site creator/author shouldn't have the 'comments are closed' text visible because it looks unprofessional. A bit of playing about with the coding would have sorted that.

To me it's only a site set up by someone to make money off the ads. The contact email is via gmail rather than by an email address like info@*****************.com (which could be easily done with a redirect to his gmail account)

They have a 'privacy' page which is required by google if you run their ads.

hmmmmmm ... a money expert who gives their contact email that starts with the word reggae ?!?

It's only a site set up to capitalise on inputted google search terms related to 'money', 'guide', 'ireland' & money guide ireland - find the best rates on savings accounts, mortgages , loans, insurance, tolls, broadband, mobiles, electricity. discounts for shopping too. etc.

Joseph owns these sites too:

As all the above sites are set up to make money from ads I'd be taking the advice given in *****************.com with a pinch of salt.

I'm sure that there are more sites in his portfolio but the above is what I found with a cursory search.

Thanks PaddyBloggit and others. I found the owner's name too but not all the other sites! I take the point about the purpose of such a collection. AAM turns up trumps again!

how far should I consider their financial recommendations trustworthy?
I thought that it was more information than recommendations? If they tell you that the cheapest Credit Card is XYZ , then that is a pointer which you can check out.

They also say this on their website

Whilst we strive to maintain the rates and update them when changes occur – customers should double check with the financial institutions for confirmation of current rates.
