Who does the dependant relative tax credit cover?

Hi

I'm wondering who is covered by the dependant relative tax credit? Both my parents are in a nursing home and I am paying the home €1000 a month for the 2 of them (€500 each). I am an only child so am paying the €1000 by myself. At the moment I claim tax relief for the nursing home and any other medical bills every year using the med 1 form. Am I entitled to the depdenant relative tax credit or would they have to be living with me? If not is there any other tax relief or social welfare payment I would be entitled to? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Call into the tax office and fill out the form.

If you are running errands, collecting stuff (prescriptions, paying bills)and generally helping your dependant relative do things that they cannot do themself you should get it although it's only a few quid. Better in your pocket though.

You don't need to be living with them.
