White Marble Fireplace Surround Smoke Stain

Hi,

I purchased a new white marble fire surround recently, with black granite insert. Within this, I had an inset stove installed.

I am now noticing that the white marble surround seems to be getting smoke stained on the underside of the mantle etc.

Is this something that one would expect to happen?

Seasoned sticks are being burnt in the stove, along with coal occassionally. When the door of the stove is opened to put in sticks, some smoke does escape.

The marble surround was bought from a person with a very good reputation.

I would have expected that the marble would be sealed in such a fashion that this would not occur. The marble fireplace supplied advised cleaning the fireplace sound with Mr Sheen. We have been following this advice.

Has anyone any experience with this?

Thanks
