In my own personal opinion, why bother going to the expense of solid timbers if they are going to be painted white, this of course would only apply to internal doors for obvious reasons..The hollow honeycomb ones work just fine with white architraving and a lot lighter and easier to hang. People seem to be always of the opinion that solid is better for some reason, there will prob be no wear and tear with your average internal door providing they are not kicked shut.I love my timber but when it comes to internal doors, the honeycomb ones are fine for me.Hi
I am trying to decide what type of internal doors to choose?
I see in alot of magazines white architrave/skirting with oak doors and white doors with white architrave/skirting - My question is; when people choose to have white doors and white architrave what type of wood would they use for the doors - is it painted deal or painted pine or is it the hollow honeycomb doors??
Thanks
Good point, never thought of that!!there are much sharper edges on the recesses, they also seem to be better at keeping noise in/out
Hi Newname, if the solid doors are only 50euros, I would definately consider buying them having had a re-think about the pluses. Noise reduction is very important in a house and ya the price involved in hanging them will still remain the same. you could possibly get the honetcomb ones for around the 30 euro mark..Thanks for replies,
I've been told the solid doors are better for insulation and noise reduction. I'm not sure what the price for the hollow doors is but the pine doors are being sold for €50 a door at the min and the oak ones for €80. Bearing in mind that they will all cost the same to hang, the cost difference might not be huge. Does anyone know what price the hollow doors are going for???
Thanks for replies,
I've been told the solid doors are better for insulation ...
Good point!!! now I'm rightly confused, anyone any scientific facts???I wonder about that. Hollow ones have pockets of air which might be better.
So concentrate on that rather than the insulation properties of hollow versus sold internal doors.Biggest source of drafts is around and mainly under internal doors.
