Where to save a lump sum?

I have a large sum of money sitting in a fixed term deposit account in the AIB getting less than 1% interest. I want to move it somewhere to get a better rate of interest but not sure where. I'm good at saving but useless at knowing where to put my savings, so need help!! I'm not willing to put all of it into a long term savings account but could afford to put at least some of it away for a fixed period of time.

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.
