Hi All,
My mother has a 40K lump sum that she wants to invest.
Can anyone give me suggestions as to what she should consider would be her best options in the current economic climate?

The current situation is as follows:
My Mam and Dad Aged 58 and 63 respectively. They own their home and have no debts. Both do not have a pension or any investments. Mam is a housewife and Dad works in construction but he is planning to retire within the next 12 months. All the family (five) are reared and all bar one have left the nest.

The investment timeframe would be 5 to 10 years. Their attitude to risk would be low to medium. If an income could be generated from the lump sum this would be good.

Hello George,
Shares are a dirty word at the moment, however if one was looking to earn an income from a lump sum with medium risk I would certainly be looking at shares. Some are now offering a dividend of as much as 10% or more dependng on what side of the trough you are catching them.
