Does anyone know where I can get salt for a water softener? I'm looking in north county Dublin, around Swords or Malahide. I've found a supplier in Drogheda, but would prefer something closer.

Most Plumbing supply places or Farmers Co-ops have it, the one I use is Broxo it's about 7 euro for (I think) 25 kgs bag.

Would have thought most builder providers would have this, I know my local one has .... location wise not much used to you though .....

As far as I know it is to do with the percentage of water insolubles in the salt (e.g. calcium sulfate). Rock salt has a high content of insolubles (up to 3%) whereas solar salt or evaporated salt would be much lower 0.1% to 0.3%. They will all soften the water, it is just that you will have to clean out the brine tank more often if there is more insoluble material in the salt you are using. Failing to clean out the brine tank will effect the efficiency of the water softener.

Murtaghs in Ashbourne

I've found aquasoft in Santry. They stock broxo salt, but it's going at €10 a bag, rather than €7.

I think that's just a little too far for convenience. Seems I'm paying a premium for being in Dublin.

Shop around, I paid 7 euro for Broxo too (at a local Farmers co-op, hardware store)

Looking to get some bags as stocks running low. I have been using axal 25kg bags.
Anyone know where I can get them or similar in the North Kildare/South Meath/West Dublin location please.

hi all,
where do ye place the salts, in the well or in your domestic tank?
how much do you use i.e kg / litre ??

The salt gois into a preinstalled water softener system. Never heard of it going in to the domestic tank or well.
