Where to get large sheets of plastic to kill off a large amount of grass in allotment

Hi

I want to kill off a large amount of grass in my allotment and wanted to put down sheets of plastic to kill off the existing grass and weeds.

Any ideas where I could get a load of this ? Ideally free somewhere !
Was thinking a builders providors might have some left over packaging ???

Any advice would be great

Any local farms/farmers? They use black sheeting for silage pits, bale wrapping and many other stuffs

Yes you should contact your local Dairy Cooperative Agri store.

Could you not just use a herbicide like 'Roundup'?

I don't think they are allowed in the allotments

The last thing you want to put down is a strong chemical like that into the ground where people would then want to grow veg etc.

If you know anyone in the butter factories they use black heavy sheets of plastic to line the base of pallets.. They are perfect for use in the garden

I bought a roll of Visqueen 1000 guage polythene at Mannions Builders Providers today for €23.09 for a similiar exercise. They are in the Sth Circular Road near Rialto. No connection to them.
