First time user here.
I'm interested in buying a 6 or 7 foot snooker/pool table and was wondering has anybody purchased one from Argos or Smyths Toys?
I'm based in Galway.

For young kids as a 'toy' or for proper adult/older child use?

The likes of what's in Argos/Smyths is pretty low quality compared to the real thing. If it's for young kids who might go off the idea in a few years - fair enough, but for anyone else it will be frustrating.

You would be better off trying actual pool table manufacturers/suppliers.

It's actually for myself. The tables on pooltables.ie look very impressive and the top is probably slate so I would more than likely have a problem with carrying one upstairs to a loft. They are also much heavier and may not be suitable. I'll check it out though. Any idea of the cost of a 6 or 7 foot from pooltables.ie?

Also check out [broken link removed] - friend of mine bought one from them, not sure whether it was the 6' or 7' one but think he paid 4k for it.

i got a pool table from about 3 years ago from Lyric.ie they are based in Ballinamore Co. Leitrim.

I paid €850 (after haggeling) for a 6ft reconditioned table. Was like new when i got it, still in great nick.

Always worth a look in the Buy & Sell or similar. People often find their table has to go, to turn the space back into a bedroom or whatever.

But always factor in the price ( & availability) of a service, as the cushions & cloth would probably need replacing.

Edit. Just had a look at that lyric website. Reasonable prices, look like decent products.

7ft one on the toymaster magazine. It can be turned over and used a air hockey table. Looks Nice, €699.99. There is also a 6ft airhockey/pool table for 249.99 and same in 5ft for 109.99. They have two stores in galway

Thanks for the replies. I'll check all those options. Still interested in knowing if anyone has purchased a snooker table from argos. There's one available at €439.

Kenno,

Buying hardboard snooker tables wil quickly lead to disappointment.
Within a matter of months, slow shots will wander around the table, onto cushions, away from cushions.
A 6 or 7 foot slate bed will be heavy, but maybe not as heavy as you think. And if you buy new, make them installing it part of the deal.
If you're really keen on playing, I'd honestly recommend saving for a slate bed.

The pooltables website does have some lovely looking stuff. However, I wouldn't buy off of them because they don't publish their prices on their website. I can't stand that.
