Should it be dated when the Purchaser signs or a week or two later (usually) when the Vendor signs?

Does it make much of a difference either way?

It should be dated the date it becomes binding which, as is the norm, is the date the Vendor signs it. Until then, the Vendor has not legally committed to the purchase.

There can be all kinds of variations on the theme - many of which work on the assumption of one party not wanting to be bound while binding the other.

It does make a difference. The date on the contract should be clear and umbiguous in the event of a dispute arising.

The date will have implications in relation to the closing date of the sale and if there is capital gains tax to be paid when it has to be paid by.
