What's the minimum site size you can comfortably (or legally) build on?

What's an acre in sq meters!?

Specify a location - town, city or countryside.
If country be more specific - are there restrictions. (A1,A2, or A3 zoning).
Are there neighbouring plots and what sizes are they?
Is there an existing dwelling on the site? Is the site serviced? A site with a septic tank needs a certain amount of space for the percolation area etc.

Generally speaking it is 1/3 to 1/2 an acre.

1/2 acre is min. comfortable size for country IMO.

When I enquired with Roscommon Co Council - they told me that half an acre was the minimum for a site that needed a septic tank or waste treatment plant. It may well be different in other areas.

I have been involved where sites are smaller than 1/2 acre.
These require treatment units. Usually there is a reason for he site being less than 1/2 acre - e.g. if there is an existing house being demolished or if it is based on a parent's property.
The higher the density of existing septic tanks or wells in the area, the less likely one is to get permission.

Varies from council to council and on the size of the house.

For excample, planning won't be given for a large house on a small site - I think that most councils stipulate that the house must fit into the context of the site.

In addition to this, there is a minimun distance that septic tank/waste treatment and water supply (if you have a private one) need to be from each other and the house...

they are also supposed to be a certain distance from the boundry of the site
