What is the best way compare mortgage rates? I know that the APR is meant to include up front charges etc, but are Cost Per Thousand figures a better indicator than APR?
The Irish Times property supplement on Thursday usually has the complete list of mortgages with APR and cost per thousand. The only thing it doesn't include is any pre-conditions that might cost you extra, e.g. a requirement to open a current account where charges are levied. But in terms of straight interest rate comparisons, it's a good place to look.
The Irish Mortgage Corporation (irishmortgage.ie) has a calculator which will compare pretty much all the rates.The only one they don't quote for is the NIB Loan to Value mortgage because it's all dependent on the value of your home.
