What is a litigation friend?

I have an document that needs to be witnessed. It mentions solicitor or litigation friend. I don't have a solicitor, so who qualifies as a litigation friend?
 
Thank you that is very helpful. What it is, I have to fill in a 'statement of information for a consent order in relation to a financial remedy'. At the end there is a box for witness signature endorsing the form as the respondents (me) statement of truth. It says respondents solicitor or litigation friend. I have not used as a solicitor because the money involved is a relatively small amount, but a lot to me as I have n other income coming in as I am on income support. So there is no solicitor to witness it. I wanted to know if I can ask a friend to do it. But looking at the web site you've given me, it appears that someone has to fill out a form to be a litigation friend.
