What happens after final mortgage payment

I have been overpaying on the mortgage and it looks like I'll be able to clear the loan this year. Just wondering what happens with the deeds.

Your bank will write to you congratulating you on clearing your mortgage. They will either send you out the deeds with this letter or invite you to arrange for them to be sent out. It will be up to you to arrange future storage of them but the days of the bank holding on to them seem to be gone.
