I have a small bathroom in my 1 bed apartment in Dublin which needs an overhaul

I just got a quote for the following and am wondering whether you would consider it fair or should I get an alternative if far too expensive?

- Toilet and Basin to be retained with some minor changes (eg taps)
- Bath to be removed and replaced with shower
- Radiator to be removed
- Wall and floors to be made good for tiling (lino and wallpaper at the moment)
- Wall and Floor tiles to be fitted

Quote for Labour is 5k, cost for materials is separate (2k)

Thanks in advance

So it's 7k all together? this with you using the same toilet and WHB?

Do not even respond to the quote, that is crazy.

if i was you i'd list that job in mytradesmanonline.ie and see how many quotes you get back for it....that quote is dreadful

That quote is insane.Tell that idiot the boom is over. You only require four trades - plumber, tiler ,electrician (assuming there are a few lights to be removed and then refitted) & plasterer if you are not comfortable with just using moisture resistant plasterboard.
If you are located on the south side I can recommend the necessary trades if you like.
Do you think that the bathroom needs any additional insulation or is the bathroom generally warm?

Thanks for the advice, I wont be going ahead with that then.
Now sourcing alternative quotations, thanks again for the feedback

That job should take no more than 7 days, and that's pushing it! so he's paying himself over €700 a day!!!! Some people are crazy, Get no less than 3 quotes, and buy your materials tiles, shower, shower basin, up the north yourself, even the difference in b&Q down here and up there is unbelieveable!!

I just got a similar quote for the following:

Remove existing tiles from floor and walls
Remove bath
Install shower (wet room or shower tray didn't make a difference)
Reuse existing toilet and sink

labour between 3 and 4 grand
2.5 grand for parts

Another expensive quote, Wheeler!

During last summer got the following done to bathroom/Toilet:
Remove stud wall between bathroom/Toilet
Remove existing tiles (walls only)
Remove shower unit, toilet unit, sink and radiator

Install new shower and shower glass screen
Install new toilet
Block up existing toilet door
Install vanity sink and associated new plumbing
plumb new towel radiator
Replace bath taps
Tile round bath from floor to ceiling and tile half wall around toilet/sink
Replace attic cold water metal tank with hard plastic coffin water tank

Paid bathroom fitter 2,400EURO for renovation (which included plastering). I did the electrical work myself.

Bought toilet, vanity sink, shower unit, shower door, chrome towel radiator and taps in the North for 800STG. Bought tiles at Right Price tiles in Dublin approx 250EURO

All work was completed in less than four days. To be fair I could have taken down the wall separating the two rooms and removed the tiles myself, but the guy insisted on doing it himself as it wasn’t a factor in the quotation and wouldn’t take long.

Our Plumber said he would fit for half of that price .

I replied to this the other day, but doesn't seem to have posted ??
I roughly calculated it at 5-6k . As a nixer between 3 & 4k. Thats all inc. you just have to have milk for the tea.

The labour is a complete rip off!
With respect to the materials, it does depend on the material types you have decided on.
Maybe the shower is one that is capable of also washing your car???
The tiles themselves maybe an expensive porcelain with expensive borders or decor pieces.
It is difficult to pass judgement on the materials as we don't know the exact particulars such as price per square yard/metre.

However, the total cost is madness!

This is typical of the kind of exploitation tradesmen around Dublin have been involved in over the last ten years. Picking a number of their head and suckering the punter. Seven grand for that job. I would love to have a word with that creep. He should be named and shamed.

toilet and basin 80E
Bath removed replaced with shower 800E
Radiator removed (fitted with new one) 500E
Tiling 800
Wall tiles 500

Total cost 2700

Thats just a rough guess factoring in labour costs.
