Hey all hoping for your help, i've tried doing a bit of research but came up with nothing.
My mum is a swimming teacher and currently working 6 days a week (not full days ) up untill 4 weeks ago he was also doing part time office work at the gym where she works. Since she was let go her earning have dropped to €290 a fortnight. She pays rent of €100 a week which includes all her utilities ( thank god ) so she is left with €45 a week to live off.
She cant claim jobseekers ( even though she has enough contributions ) because she works 6 days, and social welfare have said she is not entitled to rent supplement or any additional payments. I cant believe this and tried to ring them and was unable to get hold of anyone that could help.
She's hit a brick wall for the past 4 weeks and because of the worry about money has become quite depressed and ill.
She has maxed out her credit card because she had no other choice, something she has never done before, usually on the rare occasion that she would use it she would pay it off the next week. They didn't want to know where she rang them to try and explain. She cant even afford the monthly minimum payments.
I try to help her out as much as i can, i gave her €200 today to see her through but i cant keep on helping her out as things are tight for myself at the moment, and also she hates taking money from me, she never asks i always give it to her. She's tried getting another job but we all know how hard that is at the moment and with her hours at the moment it's very hard to fit anything else around that.
Surely it cant be correct that she can be expected to live off €45 a week. She has never claimed a penny in benefits her whole life, has always worked very hard to provide for me as a child and herself, and it's breaking my heart to see her like this.
