What a match

One last note on the betting.

At half time yesterday you could have got 7/1 on Tipp on the in-play betting.

Excellent and deserved win for Tipperary yesterday - no complaints from me. A number of things predicted a Tipp win:-
1. Tactics were better and there were easy on the head Plans B and C too. Cork couldn’t match the tactics of Tipp.
2. Tipp were the better team by far.
3. They were battle hardened eking out a draw with Clare earlier, playing Cork with 14 men in the round robin for a whole game and grinding out a hard earned win against Kilkenny in the semi final.
4. It’s very difficult to beat a determined youthful team who refused to play below themselves and were going to do their best no matter what.
5. Tipp fitness and conditioning coach is female and she was not going to leave any stone unturned in her approach.
6. Donal Og Cusack pointed out that some Cork players spent more time on the ground than their counterparts. Steel or studs? - I can’t say.
7. That loony YouTube clip after Cork’s win against Limerick didn’t do them any favours. Silly to let somebody with access to the dressing room film the stupidity and then send on the clip to some other fools.
8. Cork won the toss and opted to play with the wind - very un-Cork who traditionally are used to storming from behind.
9. Cork tactics were well predicted- Build up an unassailable lead and this didn’t happen. Tipp we’re never going to be blown away. Ray Charles could even see that.
10. No hurling for several weeks didn’t suit Cork. Tipp’s scenic route paid them well.
11.Cork’s win against Dublin was over played and over estimated.
12. The Tipp Bainisteoir gave his first 2026 Preparation Speech last night when he said The Hunter has Now Become the Hunted. He got that right too. He made no reference to the plomkers who were calling for his resignation/sacking a couple of months ago.

RTE must be praised for its coverage. Filming was excellent along with the punditry.

Oh! In a previous post I pointed out that Tipp @ 4/1 was a good value bet. I also pointed out then that your heart should never rule your head in the betting office.

I dont know whether waiting for Cluxton to retire or that Gaelic “Basketball” game yesterday was the most boring. But, another updating of rules needs to happen before it becomes a costly 70 minutes standing hand-passing bore. I’ve seen better overhead catching of a football in primary schools. Goalkeepers need to be confined to within the ir 20 metre line too. If a forward can’t kick a 45 metre free accurately he shouldn’t be even there. And goalkeepers should stop shots and not try to second as a centre forward.

Some years ago Sean Boylan speeded up the game easily ie. when a player was fouled he placed the ball on the ground and the next player immediately kicked it into play - a good tactic. That Bainisteoir also came up with soothing tea mixtures and somehow sent out fifteen murderous footballers the following Sunday.

Any more suggestions please?

I enjoyed the game, even if Kerry at times seemed like a cat teasing and playing with a mouse, everytime Donegal threatened to get closer, Kerry went up and kicked a few points.

New rules in general have been a great success, and a couple should be adopted in hurling (2 for the throw in and the dissent rule) but for Gods sake, get rid of that blasted hooter.

Euro finals have been very enjoyable.

Donegal never really turned up, their bodies were on the pitch but their spirits were on the homeward bound bus.

They (surprisingly) seemed overwhelmed by the occassion.

Man utd were past masters on recovering and winning in the final minutes, they never stopped....Donegal could have done with a Roy Keane type leader on the pitch.

Kerry won pulling up as they used to say. As a spectacle it fell a bit flat after the huge build-up. I agree the basketball tactic adds nothing to our game. I grew frustrated with Donegal tippy-tapping the ball from one to another when what they needed were scores with time running out. Congratulations Kerry, the old-fashioned high fielding from kicks out and ability to kick 2-pointers from distance seemed to be the main differences. The Kerry lads also seemed to hold their feet better with aluminium studs on display, the Donegal team featured the soccer boots.

Oh and one other thing, bring back the minors as a prelim to the senior finals in hurling and football.
