what 2 bid

Could anyone offer some advice... if there is a bid for the asking price on a house, how much more should one bid - what do you say to the estate agent?

how much do you want the house? some people say you should bid your maximum for a house you REALLY want which may avoid you getting into a bidding war with someone else and raising the price higher.. Personally I would only top the offer by 2 or 3 grand and test the water. Are you prepared to bluff and pull out of the bidding if need be?

Thanks podgerodge, placed a bid for 5k over asking price. I'll see what they come back with today... will mull over ur advise re. pulling out.
