weed prevention cover. Is it needed?

Want to sort out our back garden. About 100 sq metres. Am going to rotavate it, add topsoil, spray weedkiller, and add grass seed. Had thought about putting down one of those weed prevention cover/sheets but just wondering are they really needed?

If you are laying a lawn, I would say this is definitely not necessary or even wise. If allowed, the weeds will grow on top of the membrane. I didn't bother in one shrub area and did in another and I have to weed both areas in equal measure. Concentrate on developing a good lawm, give it good TLC and you shouldn't have any problem with weeds.
