webcam won't work

My built in webcam which was working fine, is now not working. Skype says to make sure it's plugged in and switched on but I can't find anywhere on the laptop where I can diagnoses the problem. in device drivers or control panel i can't even find any reference to it.... help!!

So - what changed between it working and failing to work?

Not sure for Skype but some applications require sole access to your Webcam in order to make it work. So for example if some other application is connected to it like its own software or Yahoo or other, Skype may not be able to use it. Try manually selecting it via Tools, Options, Sound Devices and see if it's in the drop down list there. Is it USB connected? Try unplugging it and popping it back in and then try again.

Presumably not? I presume it's one of those built into the screen bezel or something like that? Of course what bus it connects to internally is another matter (e.g. could be built in, USB connected but not user pluggable).
