Hi All

I've checked through past posts and cannot see anything specific to my problem and was hoping that someone can help me. Everytime I turn on the switch for the water cylinder to heat up water it keeps tripping at the fuse board (heats up on average for about 5 minutes before tripping). I have absolutely no idea why it's happening and would appreciate any guidance, help and advice. My cylinder and timer is less than 2 years old. Many thanks.

Immersion element needs to be replaced. When it heats the metal expands and lets water in which shorts the circuit and trips the fuse. Possibly very dangerous, switch it off and get an electrician.

Normally its a plumber changes the element in the tank , an electrician will wire it up afterwards.

Is the water hard (contains lime) or acidic where you live. The water quality can sometimes be the cause for problems with copper cylinders. Hard water will cause scale build up on the element and acidic water will corrode the element. There are solutions to these issues if they are the problem. A good plumber is likely to know if water quality is the problem.
