Wall pictures moving

Hi anyone advise, the pitures on my wall gradually slant over a few weeks. I am worried this c ould be a sign of soemthing wrong with my house, especailly as the pictures in different rooms slant in different directions, eg in front roon they slant downwards to the left but in other room they slant to the right, strange, should I be worried?

I'm on my third house and I've had to adjust my pictures on a regular basis. Never really worried about it. I am guessing perhaps its caused by drafts when doors or windows are opened. They probably shift slightly in the breeze.

I doubt think there is anything wrong with your house.

It's possible that they weren't hung properly straight in the first place - this is what happened to me.

I had a picture with a picture wire which I hung on a nail. I adjusted it to be what I though was straight, but actually I was just "swinging" it to one side when what I should have been doing was moving it right or left so that it was suspended from the middle part of the picture wire (if it's not suspended from the middle it will hang crooked because one side will be heavier than the other).

Hope that makes sense, it's difficult to explain without a diagram.

Pictures will move as it is almost impossible to get the balance on the cord or clip correct. However, I got little picture frame pads (my title) in the frame shop which prevent this movement. They are little pads with adhesive on one side. Just remove the protective paper and stick two on to the bottom of the frame, or where the frame touches the wall, and this will eliminate movement. They were about €2 for a pack of 20.

I later saw these used in a shop which was selling pictures so they must be widely available. They are a smaller version of the pads which would stick on to the legs of furniture to protect floors.

This happens in my mother's house. Oddly enough in only one room - the room which is used least! The strange thing is, that in that room, all the pictures she has hanging are of birds. I alway joke with her that the birds come to life at night and try to fly free; particularly as one of them is an owl.

Thanks everyone, am reassured that its not a foundation problem or something wrong with my house. Will just put pads on frames, although is spooky it happens in downstairs loo which has no window, drafts etc, maybe is ghosty!!

Is your downstairs loo under the stairs?? Are the pictures that are moving on stud internal walls? If so then it's likely vibrations running through the structure are responsible.

We have this 'problem' with 4 pictures in our house too. I have recently decided that they washing machine and possibly dryer are the reason for it. Behind the walls that the pictures hang is the utlilty room and once the washing machine goes into spin motion the walls must vibrate! Years ago we had a similar thing happen and we put it down to a noisy, vibrating pump in the hotpress.
