Hi All,

Daughter is doing computer science and as part of her studies needs to use visual basic in college. She would like to be able to do some work at home as well and we were just wondering if she can buy a cheapie version somewhere? It is used for designing basic user interfaces for computers.

Thanks.

You're in luck. There's [broken link removed] which is free for 1 year. I don't know why they took that route but it should do the job.

Great Decani. Thanks very much for that. Works a treat. SHe is delighted. Poor student and all that. Sure you've been there yourself :)

It's free because they want developers to use the .net framework, and this version of VB seems to be dependent on it:

Simply click Install to install your application which will automatically detect and install application dependencies, such as the .NET Framework 2.0

Microsoft make money out of the server software (and office), not the developer tools. They're worried in case developers start using Java.
