According to BBC reporting, more joy expected for Vista owners. Apprently the update will break a number of security programs including ZoneAlarm and BitDefender.
Honestly why would you upgrade to this abomination...
Im close to buying a new laptop, the laptops Im looking at are all shipping with vista. Can someone give a difficulty rating getting vista off and putting on, for example, XP?
No problem as long as you have a legitimate copy of XP to install! You don't need to "get Vista off" - you just tell the XP installer to reuse/format the disk.
It's a shame to buy a laptop like this and then ditch Vista since the price of Vista is built into the overall price. But that is not reason enough to actually use it in my opinion (still).
Should be ok, I have a legit copy of XP from the last laptop I bought 3 years ago but Im running into issues with it (the laptop) that have me looking for a new one.
My only exposure to vista is with friends who ask me to look at their PCs when they encounter performance problems, all traditional clean up methods seem to have no effect. I probably wont give up on it immediately but really dont fancy continually battling a status bar.
I think if you do some homework in optimising Vista you'll find it works ok. I prefer XP myself but have Vista on another laptop thats just used for general office/email and its fine for that.
