VirginMedia running fibre despite being told not to

So after more back and forth with VirginMedia than should be necessary, a quick update: yesterday they came to my house, without any notice as usual, and removed their stuff again. (They haven’t removed the old coax cables and switches).
There was one phone call with some supervisor a week or so ago, and a visit to my house on Monday (again, no notice - I worked from home that day incidentally). Nothing useful in those discussions really. They know they have no right to do what they were doing, and essentially chancing their arm hoping they get away with it.

Going to complain to comreg, as VM has been extremely difficult to deal with.

VM have contractors working on the road of my mother's house.
I had to attend to a situation where her burglar alarm was sounding and not timing out.

The alarm box was there for 10 years without any issues.
The fault was the tamper switch was operated.
The only logical conclusion is that the workers walloped the alarm box and set off the tamper.

There were cable tie ends scattered all over the front garden.

These workers are a nuisance and the standard of their workmanship is shoddy.

Having had a closer look this morning, they moved their switch by 25 cm, "tucked it" between downpipe and soffit, and put even more screws into the soffit. Still on my property though. Oh well...

I'd never again let them cross my property after the experience I had with them.

They were the only option for BB in my current location and again they've been difficult to contact, billing issues, and when the was an outage they didn't respond.

The only thing it's some of the alternatives have even worse track record of customer support.

They all seem to get very little sanction from the authorities on any of this.

Had Entegro at my house yesterday putting up the new fibre cable for Virgin. Lifted my grey bin after and found some cable ties and like some small plastic cap that probably came off the fibre. ok nothing major but workmen will be workmen. All these companies are horrible to deal with and I can't see that changing anytime soon so pick your battles.

You could pick a company that puts the effort to put the cables in the ground. Instead of stapling spaghetti cabling all over your gaff.

When we bought our house (20 years ago) the Eircom line into it didn't work, we were told by them at the time, the only way it could be fixed would be to have the entire garden and drive dug up. We passed on it.

Had the same from Eircom at my old address. Tbh I don't think they wanted to do it. Back in the day they only wanted to do the easy jobs. These days they've probably already upgraded the street. Unless your remote, or in difficult location.

They seem to be a bit keener these days to get the business and fix issues and also they have machines to tunnel the cables.

I asked recently about getting gas installed at a property and that's how they do it.

You'd rather have your front garden or driveway dug up?
In 2008 they were doing major road works on the road outside our house and it was decided by the council to run all services underground
They didn't have to dig up our front garden or drive way, they used a small mole machine that dug a tunnel for phone and ESB
And a good few years ago I eventually got VM to remove all their cables from my house
So now I have a cable free house with all services underground
