My family health insurance renewal is due 1/1/19. Currently we have 2 Adults on Laya Flex 500 explore but thinking of changing to Laya control 600 connect or a Vhi equivalent. Children aged 14 & 12 are on VHI One + plan. Looking for advice if there is a VHI equivalent to Laya Control 600 connect as we like the option of using VHI swiftcare ? Many thanks

Hi Alruss,

Welcome to AAM. The nearest equivalent pricewise is VHI One Plan 500 @ price 715pa, but it comes with a compromise.
The similarities are they both cover public and private hospitals.

The extras on Control 600 Connect are as follows;

1. Full cover for a private room in both public and private hospitals - this is not covered on One Plan 500, just semi-private room covered.

2. There is full cover for cardiac, orthopaedic and a wide range of surgeries and procedures in the 3 hi-tech hospitals (Beacon, Blackrock Clinic and
Mater Private) on Control 600 Connect, not covered on One Plan 500, just some Beacon cover.

3. There is full cover for orthopaedic (hip and knee replacement surgery) in any private or hi-tech hospital on Control 600 Connect, no shortfall no excess to pay, on One Plan 500 there is just 60% cover which is very poor cover. If you were an older person say 60+ yrs, I would not
recommend this plan. The shortfall for a hip replacement operation would be 6000 in a private hospital.

The cheapest VHI plan with full hi-tech hospital cover, with full cover for a private room in a private hospital is VHI PMI 44 16 @ price 1154pa.
The same plan with just semi private room cover, is VHI PMI 37 13 @ price 1075pa.

Child Options
VHI One + Plan is a good option including all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered.

A slightly cheaper option as follows;
One Plan 150; price 184pa; all public, private and Beacon hospital covered, private excess 150 x 2 max per year for all admissions, day case
excess 150 per procedure.

I know you like VHI because of the Swiftcare clinic option, just to mention that Laya child offer 'Essential Health 300' price 234pa; pay for 1st child and rest of the children are free. Total cost for 2 children 234pa.

Hi Snowyb

That's great info - really appreciate it.

It looks like Laya now have a quickcare option in Cherrywood. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Most likely we will go for Laya control 600 connect for Adults and essential health 300 for kids

Many thanks
