hi, a quick question,
can a vec switch me from a yearly fixed term contract to a specific purpose contract covering a career break without reinterviewing. The job has not changed, seems lousy as it will affect my cid
i have had 3 yearly fixed term contracts but they want to change it 4 the new year. dont see why they should be entitled to change the terms of my contract without reinterviewing

Technically speaking if the job or conditions of the job change(which they have) ... they are required under employment law to give you a contract to reflect that change.(might not be malicious intent)
As far as I am aware ... if it's a permanent role, any public sector body is required by law to advertise and interview ... if it's contract or temporary, I don't think there are leagally obliged to.(do what they want)
As regards the CID ... now that's a different matter that I am unable to add anything about.(this may require legal advice if you think it's an avoidance of CID)
Ps ... Jimbo ... how does one get a job in the VEC?
Is it contacts? Can you suggest any general ideas ... I have slipped into teaching/training with FAS in the last 2 years and am loving it ... I like adult education not primary or secondary ... I am degree business, Chartered fellow IPD, employment law, train the trainer, nlp, ... any suggestions?
My understanding of this is that the good people in Europe have brought in a law that you get the same rights as permanent staff if you are 4 years continuously employed on contract by the same school/vec ...
My job was originally advertised as a stand alone job (my own hours) but now they have changed the contract so that it states i am in secondment to a teacher on a career break. He was on career break for a year before i got my job. it seems highly unfair to me that having interviewed and got a job where there was no mention of covering another teacher, that they can now change the contract when it is up for renewal as when the teacher returns to education i will lose out.
