Using Cirrus cards in Japan

Hi,

I've an Ulsterbank Cirrus cashcard and I've been told that it might not work inJapan. Can anyone verify if this is the case?

My AIB one never worked while I was there, also credit cards aren't as widely accepted as one would imagine. It's still a very cash based society.
