I would suggest you find someone with a U$D account in the States and endorse the check over to them, accepting €uros in return. Offer to stump-up the cost of the international postage (€0.65) for them to post the checks to their bank in the States.
Give it to someone with a US bank account and you will see you money faster (depending on the check drawer and the bank used to cash it can take 1 day up to 2 weeks) and cheaper (postage).
