I am looking at a house at the moment and the front door opens 'out' .. Rather puzzled ? As the inside hall is quite roomy.....You'd expect it to open in...
I asked the auctioneer 'why' and it he had no answer for me ..
The auctioneer casually said 'oh you can convert that'.. But .. Can you ?
Or would I have to purchase and fit a new front door and frame?
I agree. Then you might find that finishes and furnishings don't suit. At that stage, you might conclude that you might as well get a new frame and door. I'd factor the likely cost into any value I put on the house if I were considering making an offer.
Check the level of the floor in the hall. Could it be that the door opens outwards because there is a slope towards the door in the hall? If so, when you turn it inwards, you will either have to dig out the hall or have a lip on the door (to raise the bottom of it up. From experience, these are ferocious trip hazards.
