Unpaid Leave - transferring tax credits

I need to take 2 months unpaid leave in November and December. My husband and I earn almost the same salary and so are jointly assessed. Can I, and is it worth it, to transfer my credits to my husband for those two months?

thanks.

I have done this twice, first time I transferred the credits, second time I kept them. It all balances out by year end anyway. If you keep the credits you get them back when you return to work (and so have higher pay for the first month or two), which I preferred.

The only reason I would transfer, is so your husband has additional income while you have none coming in or, as its the last 2 months of the year, to ensure your p60s are straightforward.

If the OP is off for Nov/Dec then she will have to get a balancing statement and get the overpaid tax back that way.Your method would work during a tax year.Alternatively,if you have a friendly payroll section, maybe ask nicely if they could put through a wage of say a euro in the last week in December, which would trigger a refund.
