I am planning on returning to study at PhD level. The university will accept me but only if I start at M Phil and then progress to PHD. I already have an MEd which I self funded while working 10 years ago. Does anyone know if my County Council would fund an MPhil/ PHD given that I have an MEd? I read the guidelines and it says the course must be of higher academic progression, but given the fact that I funded my previous master's does that mean I'd be eligible for funding for an MPhil?
They should do as in most institutions, the MPhil is the first step in obtaining a PhD. In most institutions, it is not the norm to go straight on to the PhD register, you must first do a year (or two) on the MPhil/MSc. register. So you could argue that the only way you can get your PhD is to go on the MPhil register first. You could get a letter from the College stating this which could support your application.
