What are these guys salarys?
what kind of expenses are they getting?
what perks do they have?
another thing, remove tax relief on union subs, they are costing us enough already!
thedara yes these questions need to be answered and they need to be investigated as they represent the public and are paid by the public.
Purple, are you developing a Site Dublin accent - as in the unions finding the Labour PartyDon't the unions help find the Labour Party? If so then they are beneficiaries of the tax breaks that they crow so much about.

On a related topic, Leo Varadkar had a go at one of the Union people on Newstalk this morning. He stated that Unions need to accept their part in the public sector funding crisis, as they pushed for above inflation rises through benchmarking, they pushed for huge increases in public sector spending, yet did not help ensure effective use of that money. He used the example of the health service.
Unions are one of he corners of the square, - government; bankers; builders and unions, that all helped contribute to the crisis.
Finally one of our representatives standing up to them.
As for the 'fairness'; I have seen press stating that 'fairness' would be broadening the tax net which would include those not currently paying taxes. What is the union definition of fairness? I suspect it is increased taxes on the upper scales and not the fairness that most economists would discuss in spreading the tax burden downwards as well as across. My worry is that the unions have too strong a voice and our leaders are too weak to face them down.

Benchmarking, and was receiving pay as a trainee GP for a fair while on top of his TD salary. I can't find a link for this, but there was a bit of coverage at the time. I think the HSE may have cut off the GP salary since it wasn't his full-time job.Was Mr. Varadkar not in reciept of benchmarking?
Did he return this to the state as he seems to find such payments objectionable?
More a South Dublin learning difficulty as a child (dyspraxia as it is now called, “Stupid” as it was called when I was in school) which means that I can’t spell.
Nothing change then. Lols.
