Re: community employment schemes

Hi Straberries,
Welcome to AAM!

I think you will find that you will get a better response if you dont address questions to particular individuals.

15) Please don't address specific queries directly to individual moderators or other contributors:
Moderators and contributors give of their time freely and voluntarily so, in general, please post queries for general attention/discussion on the basis that somebody will respond rather than addressing them specifically to individual moderators or other contributors, particularly those who earn a living dispensing financial/tax advice on a professional basis. In any case, addressing specific queries to individual contributors rather than to the wider community in general may have the effect of limiting the number of useful responses that you receive rather than expediting things.

Obviously this guideline does not militate against addressing individuals directly in the normal context of an ongoing discussion!

Re: community employment schemes

Don't know what it's got to do with Community Employment. On the basis of thfigures I would say any means tested assistance payment would be very low, the savings would hve a minimal affect but any income for spouse would have major implication.

I would think the figures or a ready reckoner should be on Social Welafre's website.

You mention both unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance - which is it? The latter is means tested while the former is not as it is purely PRSI payment related and is unaffected by changes in means. For what it's worth you may find some useful information on the DSFA website.

Unemployment Payment

Assuming you are currently on Unemployment Benefit and your claim is due to finish, you may qualify for unemployment assistance.

Unemployment assistance is a means tested payment meaning your wife's income can affect the amount of money your receive from Social Welfare. Savings of €12,697 set to rise to €20,000 will be ignored.

Means test as follows:
Wife working 5 days earning over €220 attracts a income disregard of €88.88.

€272gross less 88.88 equals €183.12.
half this amount €91.56 is deducted from your payment of UA and you should expect to receive €57.24
