unemployment benefit after self employment

Hi

A freind who was self employed for the last 4 years (2 seperate businesses first for 3 years, current for 1 year) is closing his business in a few weeks. Will he be entitled to draw unemployment allowance while he is looking for a new job? His wife earns about 50K

Unemployment assistance or Jobseekers allowance as it is now called is a means tested payment and would therefore be means tested on his wife's income and any other income from any other source. It appears your wife's income would be way over the threshold allowable.
