can anyone offer advice to someone, who has been unemployed for the last 3 years, and has no college, or education behind him..just the leaving cert.. he is unsure of where to go from here..when he has sent in his CV into a few recruitment agencies, but they dont want to offer him anything, because he has no Qualifications... Any advice?
 
Does this person have any interest? What would they like to work at>?

Have they tried to get some work experience in the area?

If they are seeking office/ admin work, I would suggest taking the EDCL course. It's a basic- but a step in right direction! [broken link removed]

A number of FAS offices have a specialised 'Jobs Club' course- also could be beneficial... www.fas.ie
 
In my personal opinion, someone who shows a willingness to work hard is the most important thing. I think where this person needs to start is to get a job - any job. Because this person has been out of the market for a few years and has no education behind him/her, more than likely, recruitment agenices are not the best place to go. Make an appointment with the local Obair office, who will have more suitable vacancies and can offer advice.
 
There's also usually a jobs facilitator based in the Local Office where the person signs on for Jobseeker's (assuming he is signing on). The facilitator can provide assistance on work and training schemes which may give the person the start he needs.
 
Tell him get up of his lazy hind and get out and get a labourers job! Many of the 100s of thousands foreign nationals have neither college education or trades but do you see them lying horizontal for 3 years without work, I dont think so!
 
why not try a trade, some of the best tradespeople i know came into their trade later then normal.
 
In a shrinking employment market it looks as if the bandwagon has passed. Whether you are underqualified, qualified or overqualified you have to put yourself about. As a tradesman myself, I'd say to forget Stonemasonry at this stage. But can he not get a job as a driver or suchlike. Three years is a very long time to be out of work. Are you sure that there are no other issues playing into this?
 
have we established is this the same person? Simeon, out of interest, why would you say forget masonry? I belive every sector goes through up's and downs.
 
Either it's the same person or the girl really does carry a torch for this type of subject. Sooooo, at 28 years old to start learning a wet trade? Early 30s before he would have learned it (we are not talking about a conventional apprenticeship here). It's a pretty arduous game. If he has not shown much inclination to join the labour market over the past few years ....... I wonder why he has taken so long to realise that this type of job is for him.
 
The stumbling block appears to be "no qualifications" based on previous thread and this one (In note OP is oofline so can't confirm things). If that is case, this person must be prepared to start at the bottom, as it were. If they are claiming Jobseeker's for three years they will qualify for a Back to Education scheme which is one way forward. They should also get an appointment with their local Facilitator as Gipimann suggests, who will tease out all their options.

I would wholeheartedly agree with this comment - if the person for whom the OP is posting about wont get up and do things for themselves, no amount of advice in the world will help.
