Hi all

I asked revenue to review my tax for the last four years and it turns out I have an underpayment of tax as a PAYE person. The amount is €500.

I am not working now and they have told me to forward a cheque ASAP.

I would never have known this only I asked them to review my tax for the last four years. I don't have the money to give them plus I am emigrating in a few months.

If I don't pay it does any one know what could happen to me?

@belle1
- Have they issued revised assessments?
- If they have call them and explain your situation
- Either agree a schedule or just don't pay it (sounds like you want to pay)
- Nothing will happen to you. There are slightly bothered by cases 200 times bigger than
yours. Tell them your story as opposed to doing nothing (if they have raised assessment).

Tks wizarddr. To be honest I can't pay
Them my mortgage esb and gas food etc are priority. They raised assessments for the last 4 years because I ask for a review otherwise I would never have known.

@belle1 - I would not ignore it - I would call them.
You may agree a schedule.

They are quick enough even with small accounts to use the Sheriff. Therefore DO NOTHING is not advisable.

Have you made sure you have claimed for absolutely everything (you can) over the time period? ie credits, medical expenses, waste charges etc?

S.

don't ignore it. They hounded me for 671e arrears from seven years previously which they maintained I owed. I was able to prove I had actually paid it only because I've kept all my tax records, even for years that had been finalised with balancing statements, etc.

Ok, Ill call revenue this week but I don't have any money to give them at the moment...not even a fiver! We are both unemployed at the moment, planning on emigrating.

Anyway what I find strange is the both my husband and I were jointly assessed, but they send him a cheque with a small refund ( under a tenner) but surely if we are joint assessed and there tax owing, they would have offset this amount to the tax owed?
