Unemployed for 12months Rent Allowance?

Hi,
I am unemployed just over twelve months, would i be entitled to rent allowance even if i would be starting from scratch wit d lease or would i need to be there for few months before i could apply.
Can anyone help?

At the moment, there is no requirement to be renting for a particular length of time before you can apply for Rent Supplement (though that is due to change in the future). You can get the application forms from your local CWO or download them from www.welfare.ie - you need 2 forms, SWA1 (general application form) and SWA3 (Rent Supplement Application form - part of which is completed by the landlord).

There are maximum rent limits which apply - if your rent is over that limit, you generally won't qualify. The limits can be found on the SW website as well.

I thought the new rules had come in already and thought i would have to have been on a housing list. i wont be over the limit as i ll be house sharing anyway. thanx for your help
