I am hoping someone can advise me here.
I have moved from the uk approx 6 years ago and moved address a few times ..recently i recieved a number off uk tax returns that eventually got to me at my current address (apparently they had been sent to the first address i moved to in ireland after i moved over and as i only lived there for 6 months I never recieved them. I was born in the uk, but moved to ireland when i was a child, i moved back to uk in the 80s and then came back in 2004.
I obviously have no tax to pay the uk though the penalties etc have mounted up over the years.. I am filling in the non resident bit...however I am really confused as to the residence status that i should declare. I am living, working and paying taxes in ireland permanently. but this paragraph is confusing
"were you for all or part of the year one or more of the following- not resident, not ordinarily resident, not dominciled in the uk, or dual resident.
I dont know if I am not resident or not ordinary resident.. plus there are questions about my domicile..(whatever that is)
if you are dominciled outseide the uk and its relevant to your income tax or capital gains tax liaility put x in the box.
if you were born in the uk but have never been dominciled here put x in the box,,, ( i worked in uk for a long time ) should i tick this one?
i know this seems confusing.. was going to get tax advise as I want to ensure the forms are filled in correctly so my nil liability is clear.. however as I dont have a liability it seems a waste to pay a tax advisor to help me fill in forms.. however i find them daunting and cant fill them in myself as I dont know what a lot of it means.. would appreciate any advise
